Thomas leroy Groves

TUSCOLA: Thomas Leroy Groves, 89, passed away at his house on Monday, June 26, 2023. He was surrounded by his family. A graveside service will be held at 10:00am on Thursday, June 29, 20023 in the Lueders Cemetery, Lueders, Texas. Funeral services are directed by Fry-Smith Funeral Home, Tuscola.

Leroy was born in Tuscola on November 19, 1933, to Lee Oliver and Maribell (McCormick) Groves. He attended school at Southern Taylor County then he attended Texas Tech. He continued he education at Western New Mexico college where he received his Master's in Administration in 1969

He married Anita Felts on March 10, 1961, in Lueders at the First Baptist Church. It was not long after Leroy and Anita found themselves following Leroy's career first teaching Ag in Lueders and Brycen, then to Alaska where Leroy went to work as a Civil Service employee. They ended up in New Mexico where he went to work at the Bureau of Indian Affairs and back to Alaska where he retired in 1985. Leroy and Antia roots called and they then moved back to Tuscola to enjoy retirement. It was not long before Leroy was then elected to the position of J.P. in Tuscola.

Family came first for Leroy, his wife, Anita was his pride and joy. Leroy number one goal was to spend time with his girls and then later his grandson. He enjoyed fishing and Moose hunting, he could often be found working in his woodshop, crafting, and building projects from cedar and mesquite. When he was not in his shop, he was gardening around the house.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years Anita of Tuscola; daughters Kimberly Hudson and husband Jim of Tuscola, and Wendy Groves of Tuscola; grandson, Cody Lee Groves and wife Serena.
He was preceded in death by his parents and baby brother Eddie Mac Groves.
