Mary Arena Harris Howe, 82, passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 23, 2023, in Abilene. Visitation for family and friends will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. on Monday, July 31, 2023 at Fry-Smith Funeral Home in Tuscola. A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, August 1, 2023 at the Buffalo Gap Cemetery.
Mary was born the third child to William Ashley "Dub" Harris and Juanita Love Harris on August 8, 1940, in Abilene, Texas. After graduating from Abilene High School, Mary went on to live and work in Oklahoma where she met the love of her life, Art Howe. She would tell any and everyone it was love at first sight. They were wed on March 21, 1966 and were happily married for 52 years until Art's passing in 2018.
Mary and Art made their home in the Tuscola community and spent over 40 years there. Mary was filed with a servant's heart and found her career to be in the retail industry where she worked at Dillard's for 29 years.
Mary is survived by her son Scott and wife Denise Howe. Grandchildren Ashley Ausborn, Allison Bowling and husband William, Justin Howe, Tatum Howe and Jonathon Rodriquez and numerous great grandchildren. Along with several nieces and nephews.
Mary was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Art Howe; her daughter, Pamela Zachry; her parents, William and Juanita Harris; her brothers, Bobby Harris and William "Bill" Harris and sisters, Linda Herbert and Cheryl Maddox. As well as, one great grandchild, Macy Bowling.
