Hazel Joy (Brown) Shoopman

September 6, 1928 — December 6, 2020

Hazel Joy Brown-Duncan-Shoopman beloved Mother, Nona, Grannie, 92 went to her heavenly home on December 6, 2020. Visitation Wednesday, December 9. Her service will be held at 2:00pm at Dewey Cemetery, Thursday, December 10, 2020, Jerry McNeill officiating, services directed by Fry~Smith Funeral Home, Tuscola. A visitation will be held on Wednesday December 8, from 5 to 7pm at the funeral home in Tuscola.

Hazel was born in Ovalo, Texas on September 6, 1928 to Henry (HC) Clayton and Eathel Grace Brown. Her birth took place in the family home by Dr. Head who always arrived in a horse and buggy. She has nine siblings, Billie Louise Brown-Riddle and husband Robert, Helen Marie Margaret Brown-Horrell-Simms and husbands Tom/Vernon, Mary Sue Brown-Lambert husband Richard, Loy Dale (Micky) Brown and wife Darleen, Coy Dwayne (Dody) Brown and wife Lady Nell, Henry Clayton Jr, and Infant boy Brown.

She married Aubrey Duncan in 1947. They had three children: Sonya Duncan-Post husband Sam, Aubrey (Buddy) Duncan and wife Mickie, and Rodney Duncan. Aubrey Senior died a car accident during the early morning hours in May 1956 while he was on his way to work servicing juke boxes. Hazel was four months pregnant with Rodney at the time.

She later married Howard Shoopman. They had one daughter Sherry Lee Shoopman husband Matt.

When she was younger Hazel loved gardening, reading, sewing, taking care of children. She loved having her nieces and nephews come to visit. She enjoyed weekends going to visit her parents and siblings and all of their children. Everyone was always welcome.

Throughout her life she enjoyed going to church at Temple Baptist where brother Terry preached. She then went to Broadview Baptist where Brother David preached.

Throughout her life she worked at a post office near Camp Barkley she rode the train from Tuscola to Abilene to get to work. She also worked at Timex for 26 years and after Timex closed, she worked at Abilene State School for 16 years. In addition, she worked weekends at Hendrick Medical Center for 30 years.

She loved time spent with family. She has four granddaughters: Jennifer Post, Amber Reed and husband Chris, Joy Shoopman and wife Tati, and BreAnna Bush. She has two grandsons: Michael Duncan and wife Christy, and Chris Duncan and wife Gina. Ten great grandchildren: Brodey Shoopman, Cody Duncan, Shawna Dovgalyuk and husband Vitaliy, Christa Duncan and husband Dustin, Elissa Shoopman, Emilee Post, Eli Post, Michael Duncan Jr., Zachary Duncan, and Nathan Duncan.

And three great great-grandchildren Aubree Grace, Atlas Sky and Jupitor Orion. And of course, we cannot forget her faithful fur babies: dogs Duke and Scrappy and cat Smokey.

She was proceeded in death by both of her parents, first husband Aubrey Duncan, son (Buddy), brothers (Loy and Coy), sisters (Helen and Sue), she is survived by her sister Billie, her children (Sonya, Rodney and Sherry) and several loving nieces, nephews, cousins.

She will be missed on earth, but we have comfort in knowing she is in her Heavenly home celebrating with her family.
