Glenda Sue (Nelson) Fleming

November 9, 1942 — July 18, 2022

Glenda Sue Fleming, age 79, of New London, Texas, passed away peacefully on July 18, 2022. She was born on November 9, 1942, in Ville Platte, LA, to parents Joe and Hazel Nelson. Glenda was the proud middle child between her older sister Donna and younger brother Jody. She spent many of her childhood years in Louisiana before moving to Texas to attend Abilene Christian University where she met her beloved husband, Jerry Fleming. Jerry and Glenda were married in New Orleans, LA, on August 15, 1964. Glenda personified leadership and a can-do attitude and wore many hats throughout her career including Teacher, Co-host of The Carpenter's Children Television show, Chamber of Commerce Executive Director, Elementary Principal, City Council Representative, and Mayor Pro-tem of New London, to name a few. Throughout her various professional endeavors, Glenda raised her three children, Bevie, Sue, and Jay, alongside her husband while also demonstrating her love for Jesus. Whether through various ministries or philanthropic organizations, her infectious smile showed Christ's love to everyone she met. She lived every day on a mission to love God and serve others with the most joyous spirit. Like all of the flowers she loved so dearly, she brought beauty and color to the world throughout the seasons. In choosing a life partner and growing a family, she built a foundation centered on Christ and never lost sight of that. Her beauty and grace were complimented by the utmost courage - whether it was courage to fight sickness or courage to stand up for what's right - she never backed down from a challenge.

In addition to her titles of Glenda, Mrs. Fleming, and Mom, she was also "Gege" to 11 lucky grandchildren. Her grandchildren will never forget climbing into bed for morning coffee with Gege and PawPaw, Cousins Camp, making ice cream on their back porch, her festive table settings, her happy birthday duets with PawPaw, her delicious sweet peach tea, their chocolate gravy for breakfast, songs of worship ringing through their house, her and PawPaw's consistently color-coordinated outfits, their sharing of stories about the Bible and faith, golf cart rides through her East Texas "kingdom", the sweetest goodbye waves they would send lovingly from the porch as their family members drove away, and so many others. She was an inspiration to so many and will forever be a role model for what it looks like to be the most loving and Godly grandmother, wife, mother, sister, friend, and Christian. While her physical body is no longer with us, her spirit and essence of all that she was will be with us every day as she spends eternity with Jesus in heaven.

Glenda was preceded in death by her loving father, mother, and brother. She is survived by her husband, Jerry Fleming; daughters, Bevie and her husband Steve Thomas of Kountze, Sue and her husband Will Shudde of Ovalo; son, Jay and wife Gená Fleming of Barksdale; grandchildren, Taylor Thomas, Luke Thomas, Maddie Thomas Theule and husband Kyle, Rachael Shudde Jurek and husband Marcin, Claire Shudde, John Mark Shudde, Annalyn Shudde, Sadie Shudde, Molly Fleming, Katelynn Fleming and Dylan Fleming; sister, Donna Dumas of Midland, sister-in- laws, Gatha Longley of Fate, Susan Nelson of Flint; along with many nieces and nephews.
