Glen Keith Heard

March 17, 1962 — October 12, 2022

TUSCOLA: Glen Keith Heard, 60, passed away on Wednesday, October 12, 2022, at his home. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, October 18, 2022, at 1:30pm First Central Presbyterian Church in Abilene, officiated by Cliff Stewart, directed by Fry-Smith Funeral Home, Tuscola. A visitation will take place on Monday, October 17, from 5 to 7pm at Abilene Clay Sports club house, 1102 Spur 707, Abilene, Texas 79602.

Glen was born in P&S Hospital in Alice to Bruce Truman and Martha Owen (Dallas) Heard on March 17, 1962. He attended school in Alice and graduated in 1980. Glen moved to Alpine to attend Sul Ross and graduated with an Ag Business and Meat science degree in 1984. He then became an Aggie at Texas A&M and graduated with an Ag Education degree in 1986.

Glen grew up immersed in agriculture, from helping his family with their daily operation and furthering his ag knowledge at Sul Ross and then A&M. It all led Glen to sharing his Ag knowledge through teaching Ag at San Benito, Robert Lee, Lorraine and then Miles where he retired after teaching for 33 years. During his career, Glen won many awards for his service. Those awards include Vocational Ag Teacher of Texas, Teacher of the week, Texas FFA Honorary Lone Star, and Texas Vocational Ag Tenure. It was the lessons he learned in the Boy Scouts that taught him how to serve in his classroom. His first major award was the Boy Scouts' rank of Eagle Scout.

Glen's list of hobbies included a wide variety of interest from animal husbandry, wood and metal projects, model kits, to clay target shooting and any sports of his beloved Texas Aggies. Glen's talent on the trap and skeet field was well known with his fellow shooters. What was not well known to his competitors was that he once competed on the Olympic level in trap and skeet. He never had a problem outshooting his buddies on any given day. It was Glen's easy and natural way that allowed him to make lifelong friends quickly. Many of his fellow shooters felt honored when they were squadded with Glen at an event. He had the ability to encourage them, and at the end of the day they would have a better score.

He met Karen (Hollowell) Lantrip in 2010 and finally got around to marring her on June 1, 2019, making their home in Tuscola.

Glen is survived by his wife Karen; mother, Martha Heard; son, Garret Skyles Heard, daughter, Sara Kate Heard; son, Trey Mackey Heard; stepsons, William David Lantrip and Ben Michael Lantrip; brother, William Bruce Heard and wife Yvonne; niece, Casey Fischer, and husband Matt; nieces, Skyler Heard; Halee Heard, and Allyson Heard.

Glen was preceded in death by his father, Bruce Heard (dec. 2013).

In lieu of flowers, donation can be made to the Glen Heard Memorial Scholarship C/O Miles Young Farmers, PO Box 118, Miles, Texas 76861 or to Abilene Clay Sports for a new rabbit machine (Glen's nemesis of clay targets) 1102 Spur 707, Abilene, Tx, 79602.
