Dorothy Steele Gallaway, 76, of Abilene, Texas, passed away comfortably Tuesday, May 23, 2023, in Abilene, Texas. Visitation will be held at Fry-Smith Funeral Home, 502 Kent Avenue, Tuscola, Texas 79562 from 5:00 - 7:00pm Friday, May 26, 2023. Graveside services will be held 10:00 a.m., Saturday, May 27, 2023, at the Tuscola Cemetery, Tuscola, Texas.
Dorothy was born on March 2, 1947, in Abilene, Texas with her twin brother David Steele to Beulah Wright Steele and Ervin Edmond Steele. Dorothy grew up in Abilene, Texas where she met Gary Gallaway. They were married in 1965 and had 2 children, Chad Gallaway and Chantel Gallaway. She retired from Dyess AFB in 2012 after 26 years.
Dorothy is proceeded in death by her parents, Beulah and Ervin Edmond Steele.
She is survived by her husband, Gary Gallaway; son Chad (Jennifer), daughter Chantel, grandchildren Collin and Alyssa Gallaway, and Mason Meffert; brothers Johnny Wright, Sr., David Steele, Buddy Steele and Terry Steele, sisters, Patricia Steele and Janice Steele all of Abilene, Texas; sisters in love Doris Foggle and Ann (Henry) Wheeler of Deanville, Texas; an abundance of cousins, nieces and nephews.
The family would like to extend an abundance of gratitude to those who provided care and support through Wisteria Place Skilled Nursing and Rehab and Hendrick Hospice Care of Abilene with a special recognition to the following people from Hendrick Hospice who showed Dorothy and family the most love and support through this difficult journey: Gererdo, Cherina, Stephanie and Dr. Mossack.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that any donations be made to Hendrick Hospice Care of Abilene.
