William Kennemur

LAWN: William Kennemur, 92, passed away on Wednesday, November 18, 2015 at a local medical facility in Abilene, A graveside service, with military honors, will be held on Saturday November 20, 2015 at 2:00pm in the Dewey Cemetery, Lawn. Directed by Fry~Smith Funeral Home, Tuscola. A visitation for William will be held on Friday, November 19, from 7:30 to 9:30 at the funeral home.

William was born on April 13, 1923 in Wills Point to Jesse and Maria (Shackelford) Kennemur. He joined the United State Army Air Corp. He served in World War II as a Message Center Clerk in Brazil. He returned back to West Texas as a farm hand.

He married Jessie Hazelwood February 14, 1946 in Snyder. William went to work in the oil field as a rough neck while Jessie took care of the family in Snyder. He and Jessie moved to Hobbs, New Mexico where he started his career in auto mechanics.

The year of 1979 found William and Jessie moving to Lawn to raise their youngest daughter, Tedra, and where he opened Bill’s Garage on Hwy 84. He was open but retired in 1984, and could often be found tinkering on cars for the people in Lawn

Bill loved to fish and tell the tall tale of his catches; he gave each tale away with a chuckle before he started describing the fish that got away. When not telling the tales he was drinking coffee and solving the world’s problems with the guys at the coffee shop. He was known to be very “Goosey” and would jump at a drop of a pin.

He is survived by his son, Billy Ray Kennemur and wife Angala of Lubbock; daughter Tedra Kennemur and partner Jo’Ann Harrell of Buffalo Gap; brother, Dewey Kennemur and wife Sharon of Brownwood; grandchildren, Ray Kennemur, Aaron Kennemur, Tammy Rodriguez, Tony Kennemur, Nicole Minyard.

He was proceeded in death by his parents, wife of fifty-seven years Jessie Kennemur (dec. 2003,) son, Teddy Kennemur (dec. 1989), and by two brothers and one sister.
