Velma Elizabeth Barker passed from this life on Monday, August 19, 2024. A visitation will be held at Fry-Smith Funeral Home on Friday, August 23 from 5-7pm. The burial will be held in Buffalo Gap Cemetery on Saturday, August 24 at 9am with a funeral service to follow at 10:30am at Church of the Fulness of God in Abilene, Texas.
Velma was born on December 5, 1955 to Oscar and Yvonne White. She graduated from Wylie High School in 1974. She was a Paramedic and used this skill with E.C.C.A. VFD. She received her associates degree from Cisco Junior College. She worked other various occupations around Abilene before settling at Genesis Software. She worked there until she retired.
Velma liked to stay busy. She enjoyed going out to eat with others and visiting friends and family. Spending time with them always brought a smile to her face and she always liked to be the prankster. She was very active at the Church of the Fulness of God. She enjoyed crafting and was blessed with the gift of a green thumb. She could often be found tending to her flowers and numerous plants. She also enjoyed loving on her cats Mau and Dozier. There is so much more that could be listed.
She is preceded in death by her mother, Yvonne Davis, stepfather Russell Davis, stepmother Joyce White, husband Richard Barker, first husband Myron Brock, and brother William (Bill) White.
She is survived by her father, Oscar White, brother Reid Davis and wife Patti, son Michael Brock and wife Rachel, stepbrother Raymond Bruton and wife Phyllis and those that lovingly called her "MeMaw" Ryan Brock, Jake Davis and Greyson & Robert Girdner. Velma was a very special woman to many.
It's not good bye and she is not lost, but see you later and I know where you are; in Heaven embraced in the loving arms of Jesus and Richard and so many loving family members and dear friends that had become extended family. You are not in pain anymore and there is nothing to hold you back. You are greatly missed here. We will grieve but with hope and the promise we will see you again. I pray a peace and love to all that your beautiful life here touched. For you are a true blessing to all who knew and met you.
