Tommy Rex "Tom" Harmon, 70, passed away on April 2, 2026, in Buffalo Gap, Texas. A graveside service will be held at the Buffalo Gap Cemetery on Saturday, April 4 at 11:00am.
Born July 11, 1955, in Roanoke, Virginia, Tom lived a life defined by steady devotion-to his family, to his country, and to the values he carried quietly but firmly.
Tom proudly served in the United States Army, retiring as an E8 after a distinguished career. He served as a Drill Sergeant at Fort Knox and as a Tank Commander, earning the respect of those who trained under him and served beside him. Even after retirement, Tom remained deeply respectful of the military and the men and women who wear the uniform.
Tom was a quiet man-one who avoided cameras and crowds-but those who truly knew him knew his loyalty, his strength, and his steady presence. He was a dedicated Dallas Cowboys fan, second only to his beloved wife, Ruth Ann Harmon, with whom he shared 36 years together and 32 years of marriage.
Tom is survived by his wife, Ruth Ann; his son Brian and daughter-in law Elizabeth "Elly"; his grandsons Kain and Jordan; his brother Mike; and his cherished mini-Aussie Doodle pups, Cooper and Luna. Tom will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by many extended family members and friends.
In lieu of flowers, donations to Camp Able of Buffalo Gap, or to the charity of your choice, would be a wonderful way to honor Tom's memory.
