Shirley Smith

March 20, 1948 — February 26, 2015

ABILENE: Shirley V. Smith, 66, passed away suddenly on Thursday, February 26, 2015 at Hendrick Medical Center.   A funeral service will be held Tuesday, March 3, at 12:30 at Calvary Baptist Church in Abilene with Michael Reed officiating, directed by Fry-Smith Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Tuscola.  A visitation will take place on Monday, March 2, from 5 to 7pm at the church.

Shirley was born to Kenneth and Elsie (Sweet) Stoughton in Union, New York on March 20, 1948. Shirley married Raymond Smith on December 15, 1980 at Fort Hood.  After living in the Fort Hood area, they moved to Abilene for the next 22 years.

A mother to all, Shirley raised three children and enjoyed chasing after them.  Her mothering even continued on as she raised her grandchildren who called her “Mom”.   She loved to read, shop, and cook, which included big holiday dinners.  Another big enjoyment for Shirley was to watch and listen to the music of Tim McGraw. Shirley claimed not to have a “Green Thumb” but loved Lilies of the Valley.

Survivors include husband, Raymond Smith; sons, Billy Clarkson and wife Brenda of Tuscola, and Christopher Smith of Abilene; daughters, Cammie Moore and husband Bobby of Abilene, and Katrina Smith of Abilene.

Preceding her in death were her parents; brother, Raymond Stoughton, and sister, Eileen Nichols.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to be made to Calvary Baptist Church Children’s Ministry, 1165 Minter Ln, Abilene, TX 79603 .
