Sally Elaine Crane, age 88, passed away peacefully on September 12, 2025, just 90 minutes before her 89th birthday. A graveside service will be held on Saturday, September 20, at 1:00 p.m. at Buffalo Gap Cemetery in Buffalo Gap, Texas.
Sally was born on September 13, 1936, in Hutchinson, Kansas, to Arthur and Teresa Meyer. Throughout her life, Sally had a passion for sports and excelled in many of them. As a high school student, she played semi-professional basketball across the Midwest and was also a skilled softball player. In addition, she was a proud cowgirl, owning and breaking several horses and even riding bulls in rodeos.
On June 5, 1955, Sally married the love of her life, Gene Crane. Together, they started a family, welcoming their first son, Chuck, in 1957, followed by Tim two years later. Ever adventurous by nature, Sally continued her love for sports, camping, and motorcycle racing-creating many exciting and lasting memories with her sons.
Sally and Gene shared a deep love for travel. Two of their favorite destinations were Germany and Israel, and they visited these countries on multiple occasions. They especially enjoyed cruising, taking 23 cruises together over the years.
Before Gene's passing in 2018, he served as a United Methodist minister. Sally cherished her role as a minister's wife, finding joy in opening their home to host large gatherings for friends, family, and church members. Above all, Sally will be remembered for her unwavering faith in her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, and her dedication to leading others to the same.
Sally is survived by her two sons, Chuck Crane and Tim Crane of Lubbock; three individuals she considered her children, Leigh Crane of Lubbock, Hector Alvarez Castro of Lubbock, and Khoa Bui of California; her granddaughters, Christa Franks of Pampa and Brittany Karnezis of Albuquerque; five great-granddaughters; and two great-great-granddaughters.
