Ruth Anfenson, a beloved member of the community and cherished matriarch, passed away peacefully on December 9, 2025, at the age of 97. A funeral service will be held on Monday, December 15, 2025 at Clyde Methodist Church at 11:00am. A graveside burial will be held on Monday, December 15 at 1:45pm at Dewey Cemetery.
Born on September 25, 1928, in Iowa, Ruth's remarkable life was marked by her unwavering faith, love for music, and dedication to her family. Ruth was a member of Clyde Methodist Church in Clyde, Texas, where she shared her strong faith with others. She loved playing the piano and singing hymns at local nursing homes. Her joy for music was an expression of her faith and a gift she loved to share.
An independent spirit, Ruth lived on her own until her final days, embodying strength and resilience. Although she valued her independence, her family and friends held a special place in her heart. She had a deep appreciation for her heritage as a proud member of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) and was passionate about her love of plants, particularly African violets.
After her marriage, she moved often but ultimately spent the majority of her life in Texas. Throughout her journeys, she remained deeply connected to her roots and enjoyed meaningful relationships with family and friends.
Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, William and Hattie (Carter) Kauffman; her brothers, Glen and Eldon Kauffman; her sisters, Gladys Porter and Bernice Zea; her daughter, Carol Ann Johannes; her grandson, Ryan Neal Roths; and her husbands, Arthur Johannes and Ken Anfenson.
She is survived by her brother, George Kauffman; sister, Vera Swoboda; children, Sarah Vaughn, Donna Roths, Dollie Cowan, and David Johannes; as well as numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren who will carry on her legacy of love.
Ruth Anfenson will be dearly missed by all who knew her. Her spirit, prayers, and unwavering support touched many lives, and her memory will live on in the hearts of her loved ones.
