ROBERT (Dan) DANIEL HERNANDEZ
May 18, 1946 — December 16, 2014
POTOSI: Robert Daniel (Dan) Hernandez, 68, passed peacefully away in sleep Tuesday, December 12, 2014 at his home in Potosi. A memorial service will be held at 1:30pm Friday, December 19, 2014 at Potosi Baptist Church, Keith Clifton officiating, directed by Fry~Smith Funeral Home, Tuscola.
Dan was born to Daniel and Bessie (Lopez) Hernandez in Waller on May 18, 1946.
He joined the United States Marine Corp and served in Vietnam. When he separated from the Marines he went to work in the steel industry managing a steel mill.
Dan moved to Austin and enjoyed what Austin had to offer. It was in 1991 at the Austin public library that he met Becky McClendon. Becky was returning a book when Dan saw her for the first time, he mentioned to her that he could not read and she offered to teach him. Becky quickly learned he could read and since that meeting in the library, she has been by his side caring for him.
Dan loved to fish, watch old western movies, and sports. As Dan’s diabetes became more difficult to manage, he could be found sitting on the front porch enjoying the West Texas sunrises and sunsets.
He is survived by Becky McClendon of Potosí.
He was preceded in death by his parents Daniel and Bessie.
