Robert O. Knott

TUSCOLA: Robert O. Knott, 90, passed away Thursday, November 20, 2014 at Hendrick Medical Center under Hospice care. A graveside service, with military honors, will be held at 2:00pm, Monday, November 24, 2014 at the Texas State Veterans Cemetery, officiated by Ryan Goodwin, directed by Fry~Smith Funeral Home, Tuscola.  A family visitation will be from 4 to 6:00pm on Sunday November 23 at the funeral home.

Robert was born in Duncan, OK on June 6, 1924, to Daniel Thomas and Lila (Latham) Knott. He served in the US Army for two years from 1943-1945. It was during his training at Camp Barkley, when he met Mickey Jane Anderson of Tuscola, his future wife. When Robert finished his training, he was assigned to the 89th Infantry Division and shipped out to Europe.  He was wounded shortly before the war’s end, and upon his return to Abilene, he married Mickey Anderson on April 16th, 1946. They celebrated their 68th wedding anniversary this year.

Robert was involved in farming and ranching in the Tuscola area for many years. He served two terms as mayor of Tuscola, and he enjoyed many years in retirement playing golf and attending Jim Ned basketball games.

Robert  is survived by his wife, Mickey, of Tuscola; one daughter, Linda Cross and husband Darrell, of Ovalo; one son, Randy Knott and wife Barbara of Tuscola; one brother, Bill Knott and wife Lodema of Duncan, OK; one sister-in-law, Flossie Knott of Duncan, OK; five grandchildren, Kelly Calvert and husband Kris, Cody Cross, Casey Luckenbach and husband Brian, Jason Knott and wife Catherine, and Sara Knott; five great-grandchildren, Ethan, Josh, Norah, Rachel, and Audrey Luckenbach; numerous nieces & nephews, and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Leon, Duane, and Ivy Knott, two sisters, Marie Ramsel and Margie Knott.

The family would like to give special thanks to the many doctors and care givers who were involved during his illness.
