Larry Ray Gill

March 30, 1944 — November 28, 2021

Ovalo

Larry Ray Gill was born in Winters, Texas to James Orval and Nona Quay (Sneed) Gill, on March 30, 1944. The family lived in Tuscola, Texas until Orval became a Police Officer for Abilene and the family moved to the city. He graduated from Abilene High School in 1963 and joined the Navy.  He was a Beachmaster Radioman and traveled the world as well as served during the Vietnamese War.  He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal for his service and retired from the Naval Reserves in 1990.

While in the reserves and after, Larry had several other careers including: Maintenance Technician at Victor Equipment with his best friend, Junior Poindexter, Maintenance Supervisor at French Robertson Prison and a Master Craftsman with locksmith certification.  He was a proud member of the Texas Rifle Association.

He was preceded in death by his parents and wife Ruth.  His memory lives on in the hearts of his sisters Sue Harris (Bruce) of Ovalo, Carolyn Smith (J.T.) of Tuscola, and Orvaline Okerstrom of Abilene, and Ruth's son Eddie Cannon (Michelle), as well many family and friends.

Larry enjoyed telling his sisters that he lived an amazing life and accomplished more than he could have dreamed.  Well done and "Fair Winds and Following Seas"
