ABILENE: Life can be the most unpredictable and death is always inevitable. Would you want to depart from this word by a confined box or to be cascaded into the vast crisp atmosphere to find yourself drifting freely to land on the silky green grass of what you call home?
Kristin Lerette-Matjeka, 28, was born on April 5, 1987 in Hendrick Hospital of Abilene. She was the most beautiful free soul to bless this earth even when her physical freedom had been taken away. She demonstrated strength beyond reason as she battled Neurofibromatosis, a disease that rendered her body from her will. However, even with many doctors’ appointments, lack of balance, and her obnoxious giggles she enabled herself to live an eventful life. She was granted a normal childhood that led to an adventurous college career. She received her bachelor’s degree in Interdisciplinary Studies at University of Texas San Antonio (UTSA) while taking on the role of the Cookie girl for the baseball team and following them to every game in Texas, she literally was their number “1” fan.
She found a goofy, kind-hearted soul named Cory Matjeka to fall in love and marry in the beautiful Pioneer drive Baptist Church with a phenomenal ceremony. They complimented each other so gallantly and he cared and attended to her immensely.
Kristin passed on Wednesday, September 2, 2015 at 6:28am to pneumonia, while surrounded by her loved ones.
She is survived by her husband, Corey Matjeka of Abilene; mother, Pam Stubblefield and husband Kirk of Abilene; father, John Lerette and wife Susan of San Antonio; sister, Dawn Forcina and husband Blake of Charleston S.C.; brother, Trent Lerette of Abilene; grandparents, Roy and Marilyn Flournoy, Mary Lerette, and Ernestine O’Dell; and one nephew Conrad, she is also survived by many cousins and a large extended family.
