James Dale Burress was born on August 11, 1950 in Lubbock, Texas, the oldest son to the parents of Darrell and Sally Burress. He grew alongside his two siblings, Brenda Cook and Mark Burress. He attended Abernathy High School and graduated in 1968.
In 1983, he married the love of his life, Carol Burress. They would continue their marriage for 40 years until his death. Dale worked an array of careers, from oilfield and farming, to crop insurance. He loved to fish, hunt, and spend time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his father and mother Darrell and Sally Burress, and brother Mark Burress.
He is survived by his wife, Carol Burress; daughter, Amy Shoemake and husband Daniel; daughter, Becky Duncan; son - Larame Burress and wife Nickie; son, Scot Dunlap and wife Shonda; son; Jody Burress, and wife Valerie; sister, Brenda Cook. He is also survived by his thirteen grandchildren: Seth, Dylan, Bailey, Colten, Loralye, Alex, Callie, Ian, Aiden, Tiana, Antonio, Steven, Erika; and three great grandchildren: Brielle, Logan, Carter.
Funeral service are directed by Fry-Smith Funeral Home, Tuscola.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Cancer Services Network, 1218 North 4th Street, Abilene, Texas, 79601. A local group that supports cancer patients during and after treatments.
