Marylyn Kate (Logan) Ellinger-Tate

ABILENE: Marylyn Kate (Logan) Ellinger-Tate passed away on Wednesday, October 19, 2022.  A graveside service will be held on Saturday, October 22, 2022, in the Buffalo Gap Cemetery at 10:00am, Marylyn’s grandchildren will officiate the service, directed by Fry-Smith Funeral Home, Tuscola.

Marylyn was born on January 12, 1933, in Utopia Texas to James M and Eula May (Kiker) Logan.  Her family lived in several small towns until they moved to Abilene in 1942.

During her youth she attended Abilene High School, graduating in 1951 and as a honor graduate. She attended McMurry College completing four years in three with a major in Education and English.  She was twice chosen a Totem Beauty and elected Athletic Sweetheart in 1953.

She married Dr. Ted Ellinger in 1955 and they had two sons Steven Ted and Scott Thomas.  Her greatest joy was taking care of her family and supporting them in their activities.  She was a member of Aldersgate Methodist Church in Abilene, Abilene Woman’s Club, Big Country Ford V-8 Club, and the Garden Gate Garden Club.

She was also a past member of the American Association of University Women, Volunteer Council of Abilene State School.  She worked in the banking industry from 1980 to 1994 as a loan processor.

She later married Coy Tate, prominent businessman, and they travelled nationwide collecting antique toys and vintage automobiles.  Her favorite was the 2002 yellow Thunderbird.

She was preceded in death by her husbands Ted Ellinger (1994) and Coy Tate (2019), her parents, brother Dr. Tom Logan, and sister Betty Michl.

She is survived by her sons Steven Ellinger and wife Joy of Abilene, Scott Ellinger and wife Karil of Coppell; four grandchildren, Logan Ellinger and wife Taylor of Midland, Lex Ellinger and Kailey Winn of Houston, Brittany Ellinger Jones and husband David of Mustang, OK, Bryce Ellinger of Coppell; and two great grandchildren Kinley and Landry.
